WHY WHITE…
Monochromatic white models are useful for the early design stages, from working models to massing and general layout studies. Using white materials emphasizes clean simple lines and spatial relationships, avoiding distraction from the overall design intent.
White models are neutral and abstract, allowing people viewing them to use their imaginations to interpret design ideas.
In the past, we used museum board for making white models, because it is easy to cut and Elmer's Glue is invisible at joints. These days, with laser cutting, we use white plastic, incorporating more details. Both methods are more efficient than trying to create a model in color, when material selections have likely not been finalized yet.
Finally, using white cardboard or plastic for architectural models provides a sense of professionalism and quality.
